Reception & The Grain Exchange

The Grain Exchange - Milwaukee Wedding - Wedding Reception Ideas

Before we begin, if you haven’t already, please check out pictures from when we got ready and our ceremony. I go into detail on why we did and what we did so take a look if you can, especially if you are planning your own wedding soon!!

The reception. Probably the aspect of the wedding where you spend most of your time (and money!) planning. I am so grateful that the gold sparkle vision I had came through and I really cannot thank our vendors enough! If you are planning a wedding in Milwaukee, check out everyone below because they really made our dream come true!

My Mom and I saw countless number of venues in Milwaukee but the second we saw The Grain Exchange in person, we knew it was “the one”.  For one, our wedding was not just an ordinary cookie cutter wedding. My motto for the planning was “Classy with a Twist” and when we saw this BEAUTIFUL space, we knew it had to be where we held our party!

The Grain Exchange is owned by one of the biggest restaurant groups in Milwaukee, The Bartolotta Restaurant Group, and one of our favorite aspects of booking The Grain Exchange was the food! We knew the food was going to be on point because of their Bartolotta reputation and boy oh boy where we right! My parents have actually known the Bartolotta family for some time so it was even more special that Maria Bartolotta was planning our evening. She made sure everything went off without a hitch and if I could, I would give her the biggest bear hug right now! Some venues that we looked at didn’t have someone helping throughout the evening and frankly, I don’t think my Mom, sister, or myself would have had as much fun if we didn’t have Maria helping us throughout the night. Having someone keeping schedule and dealing with all of the logistics was so wonderful. If you can’t have a wedding planner like we did, find a venue that has someone on site the whole night, it’s totally worth it!!

As for the table settings and lighting, we wanted a gold dream! Everything down to the chairs and table runners (well, half of the tables had runners) were gold and with the lighting, everything looked magical. Once the music started the lights changed to a light pink (the color photographed a little purple but it still looked awesome!) to indicate that the party was starting and yet another aspect of our wedding that was “Classic with a Twist”.

We also opted for a small cutting cake as opposed to a couple thousand dollar big cake. We had our baker make a number of sheet cakes that were cut up in the kitchen and you guys, it saved a TON of money!! Cake tastes the same not matter how big it is so if you are looking to save money, I HIGHLY recommend sizing down your cake.

For our first dance Mac and I danced to “Can’t Help Falling in Love With You” from Elvis and I have to say it was a dream come true. For as long as I can remember I wanted to dance to that song at my wedding and it was the most perfect moment in the world. It felt like it was just the two of us in that room and I will forever remember that moment.

My Dad and I had an equally special moment when we danced to my late Grandma Marie singing “Daddy’s Little Girl”. My Dad made a very short speech explaining the video and you guys, I was a bawling mess! It was my first Christmas and my Grandma Marie’s last. Grandma wanted to give me a present so she sang me “Daddy’s Little Girl” while my Dad ran the 1980’s video camera. After she was done she said “I want her (me!) to have that. This is your gift, this is your heritage.” and ever since I can remember I believe the reason I majored in Musical Theater was because of that very moment. It was a beautiful dance with my Dad and I think Grandma Marie was right there with us at that moment.

Ok, so since this post is super long already I’ll try to make the rest brief! Mac danced with his Mom to Josh Groban’s “You Raise Me Up” and every single person who made a speech was perfect! My Dad’s speech was centered around the song Meant to Be and quite possibly the most eloquent, beautiful, and perfect speech I have ever heard. When I share our wedding video (coming soon!!) you will get a snippet and you guys, it’s so perfect!!

All in all the whole evening was perfect!! The Michel Walters Orchestra was perfect, the after dinner Grasshoppers and Brandy Alexanders were perfect, and my husband is perfect, so what more does a gal need, right!?

Stay tuned next week for the last segment in this wedding series!! Thank you all for reading this super long post! Can you tell I enjoyed our wedding?!
